It's been a whole month since I've posted on here...oops! Life gets busy! I'll group together 4 of the books I've read into one post to catch up a bit.
The Falling Kingdoms series is essentially Game of Thrones for teenagers. While Game of Thrones was too over the top for me--too much blood, too much betrayal, too many characters to keep track of, too many of said characters dying, too much sex, etc. (I didn't even finish the first book!)--the Falling Kingdom series toed the line of my threshold. There are so many twists and turns. Love triangles galore. Underhand politics. And so on.
When I started the first book I incorrectly assumed this was a complete quartet, but it is still being written. I'm not sure I'll finish out
the series, but it scratched my itch for some high fantasy back in June.
Quote that captures the "moral" of the series:
“Even in the darkest and most cruel person, there is still a kernel of good. And within the most perfect champion, there is darkness. The question is, will one give in to the dark or the light? It's something we decide with every choice we make, every day that we exist. What might not be evil to you could be evil to someone else. Knowing this makes us powerful even without magic.”
