The first book had a decidedly Georgette Heyer feel to it. Heroine is young and naive. Hero is older and wiser. Neither have found love in the "ton," but find it in each other. Some adventure/shenanigans ensue. Rinse and repeat. However, the adventure and shenanigans of this story went above and beyond what I expected. Her treasure-hunter parents are kidnapped and she runs off to rescue them following clues with the hero on her tail and eventually by her side. They go all across Europe and meet many interested characters and even fly across the Alps in a hot air balloon!
Some authors can weave faith into novels well, but Jamie Carie seemed to really struggle. The religious aspects felt very forced in the first book--as if she had to go back in and try to find a Bible verse to throw into the narrative at random points even if it really didn't fit well. But it was much less of a distraction come the final book. After the first book, the trilogy became more of a page-turner and held my interest up to the end. I doubt I'll be seeking about any more of this author's books, but I was wanting some light fluff to get out of a reading slump and this sufficed.
