Another dimension to Jim Crow

My co-worker spotted this ghastly article in the Greenville News (2 October 1918). Read the whole thing through and let it sink in. The Greenville City Council was going to make it illegal to be a stay-at-home wife and/or mother for African-American women because the white community was having a hard time getting people to cook and clean for them. They were going to have to carry an ID card around with them at all times or risk being jailed or fined.
