Easter Weekend

We had a lovely Easter weekend with our church community and extended family. My aunt wowed us all with her beautiful and delicious food, and this year she even incorporated edible flowers grown on the farm. Being in the final weeks of the elimination diet, I was only able to partake of the herbed butter. But she kept pulling out more and more desserts covered in flowers! Carrot cake, cream cheese bark, and blackberry yogurt cake. Her table was also set with cute bunny inspired touches.
On Good Friday our community group participated in an abridged passover Seder. It was beautiful catching a glimpse of the Jewish symbolism foreshadowing Jesus. We already want to host or participate in a full more traditional Seder next year. So if you know of a good liturgy, please do share!
This past weekend was also the last weekend until October that one or both of us won't be working, so we celebrated by sleeping in and indulging in paleo-ish cinnamon rolls. Not often I wake up before Nathan and Daisy!
Farmer Nathan also kindly presented a hydroponics program at the library last week that was well attended and received. It was cool to hear the enthusiasm of people learning how to grow their own food. Several of the attendees already want another program, so stay tuned for other opportunities!
Beyond the weekend, our critters continue to entertain us. The spring grass clippings were a hit in the compost pile and Elsie held still long enough for a close up while laying us, yet again, another double yolk egg. She’s 4-years-old (which is past what is considered a chicken’s prime), but keeps pumping out 4 or more eggs a week!
Our baby chicks spent their last few days inside entertaining us with their the escape artist antics. They would pop up their heads in and out the brooder box keeping an eye on us and then would suddenly fly out of the box and try exploring the dining room.
Our window bird feeder was just discovered by the neighborhood squirrels. Impressively, it took them nearly 2 months to do so! The crash of the feeder against the window woke me up this morning and then the critter continued to tease Daisy even after I removed the feeder. I’ll leave you to imagine how much barking and whining Daisy did.
