Hatching Eggs & Vinegar

Miss Elsie is very happily growing some organic chicken nuggets for me! We got her set up in her own private broody suite and she is taking her role very seriously. She is sitting on 3 MaranXBrahma and 6 cream legbar eggs courtesy of my sister-in-law.
Even as we anticipate new life on the homestead, we are also anticipating loss. Sweet Lucy was one of my first 4 hens. She was a plump chicken in her youth, but has been thinning down since the winter. She has also started sleeping most of the day and is slow and lethargic the rest of the time. All signs that we should expect her to peacefully pass away in the not too distant future.
On a sillier chicken note, I surprised Stella the other day by picking her up. She wasn't sure what to think of a selfie.

This rainy week has been great for baking and time in the kitchen. made some semi-vegetarian chili, blueberry muffins, and baked a lovely sourdough loaf.
Also started another round of apple cider vinegar fermenting (look at those bubbles!) and began infusing some of the farm fresh strawberries into a sweet vinegar for salad dressings.
Per the norm lately, Daisy is soaking up all the extra time with her people, plus extra nap time on the couch on all the rainy days recently. Tux joined us for one night too.
