Long time no post! Unfortunately I caught this winter's upper respiratory plague. Just when I think I'm on the mend, wham another round. At the moment I feel like I'm on the upside, but who knows after being varying degrees of sick for the last 36 days! Before I get sent more remedies to try, let me list all the things I've tried to kick this crud:
Echinacea tea
Apple Cider vinegar + local honey drink (blech!)
Elderberry syrup
Neti pot
Garlic
Zicam
Probiotics
Diffuser with oils
Sleep & rest
Staying hydrated
Amoxicillin
Doxycyline
Prednisone
and I'm STILL SICK Y'ALL.
Anyways, figured I'd use a little of today's energy to write a brief post....
While we don't do big New Year's Resolutions, one of our ongoing intentions is to eat more locally and see how much of it we can raise ourselves. Earlier this week I realized that the food we ate this week was about 95% either raised by us or by someone we know. Which was a thrilling discovery between hacking up my lungs and wondering what shade of green mucus would be classified as. Below is what we had on the menu:
Breakfast
Yogurt - we made it from a local raw milk dairy
Eggs - from our backyard hens
GF Granola - Aldi
Lunch
Cowpeas - we grew it
Roasted Root Veggies - we grew half of them and a fellow farmer the rest
Spices blend on the veggies - from a local farm
Kale - we grew it
Dinner #1
Kilby Chili - the only ingredients we didn't raise ourselves was the beef and chili powder
Fritos - classic topping in my family that I haven't given up yet ;-)
Mint Water - the Farmer raises the mint and drinks it (I don't like mint personally)
Dinner #2
Roasted chicken - raised by a fellow farmer
Broccoli - raised by my Farmer
Gravy - butter from local dairy, drippings from said chicken + homemade broth
Potatoes - Aldi (we tried growing them, but they didn't set tubers)
