Loofah

This was year two or three that we've tried to grow loofah gourds. Last year the vine grew like crazy. All the way up to the top of a nearby juniper tree, but it only produced a single blossom and not a single fruit. This year we tried a different strategy. We started the seed indoors super early and planted it in a much sunnier location. It took ALL SUMMER, but we have 3 gourds! The first one was fully dry this week. We excitedly shook out the seeds and peeled pack the skin to reveal our first naturally grown sponge! Per the recommendation of a youtube video, we soaked it in a 10-1 bleach solution to slow down decay. We can't wait to try them out in the kitchen and bathroom!
