Sunday morning we ventured up the mountain to Penland Cove, to the family cabin that overlooks my great-grandparents homestead. Despite the cloudy weather, the view was still beautiful with just a hint of fall color tinting the trees. I decided to take my DLSR for practice some photography between visiting with my grandmother, uncle, aunt, cousins, and my cousin's kids.

The occasion for the gathering was the celebration of my grandmommy's 91st birthday! We took turns visiting with her on the porch swing overlooking the valley and her parent's homestead.

The great-grandkids had a blast running around the cabin and even more fun when they realized they could 'steal' Farmer's cap and chuck it down the hill. They about wore him out running up and down the embankment. But fun was had by all! It was a lovely afternoon catching up with family and a beautiful drive to and from.
